Have you ever felt like life was picking a fight with you? It seems that every now and then life has a tendency to slap you in the face, doesn‘t it? It could be a fast slap, like a car wreck, an injury, and you lose the case against your accident lawyer. Or it could be a slow slap such as a financial, health, or relationship crisis.
The question isn’t whether or not you’re going to get hit, but when it’ll happen. My question to you is: when that happens, what are you going to do about it? Do you lay down, circle the wagons, and hope things get better? Do you tuck your head in the sand and hope for your problems to go away?
I suggest that, instead, you roll up your sleeves and FIGHT.
F is for Face your enemy. Face your problems. It doesn’t do you or your situation any good to pretend things are better than they are. Acquainting yourself with the ugly details of your situation can be your first step of taking control over a situation that threatens you. Nothing looks as scary when you see it in the full light of day.
I is for Identify action steps that will lead you toward your goal. Rarely is any fight won by one punch. It usually takes a series of well-timed blows. Think in terms of cumulative behavior. What first steps can you take today that will lead you toward your goal?
G is for Get counsel. Before going to war, the wise always seek good counsel. That might mean calling a special staff meeting, talking to an attorney, or researching your problem on Google. In any case, the smarter you are, the better fight you’re going to wage.
H is for Have courage. Courage isn’t the absence of fear but the ability to move forward in spite of it. How many fights have been lost before a single blow was landed simply because one side lost their nerve? Make sure you inundate yourself with encouragement, in both the materials you read and the people with whom you associate.
T is for Take immediate action. Attack! Initiate the fight! Someone once told me that the first one to throw a punch in a fight usually wins. Take action now to defeat your problem. Take a class. Send an e-mail. Make a phone call. Don’t let the sun set today without getting in the fight!
Life is a struggle that will defeat those who lack the willingness or spirit to fight back. If life is taking a jab at you, it’s time to get in touch with your inner-warrior and FIGHT.
