The Four Be’s
How many times have you ever said, “If I knew then what I know now!” I was taught so many things in school but sometimes it seems that the more important things were left out.
One thing I wish somebody would have told me is what I call the Four Be’s. No matter what business you are in in California or what your job is, you can become successful by applying these four simple principles.
Be good at what you do. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you were known as the best at what you do? What would that reputation mean in terms of money, position and affirmation? While it is impossible for everyone to be the best in the world, or even California for that matter, it is certainly attainable for you to become the best within your circle of influence. In a world of mediocrity, those who choose to rise above the crowd have an advantage over their competition.
Be seen doing it. It doesn’t matter if you’re the best at what you do if nobody knows about it. In other words, if you have a trumpet, blow it already. I was speaking to a friend of mine who is a writer and learned that he has close to five or six books written. Not only has he not submitted his work to a publisher, he lets very few people even see it. How can you ever shine if you’re hiding your light?
This is especially difficult for those who suffer from a poor self-esteem. A person with a poor self-esteem avoids exposure because he is afraid of encountering rejection — rejection that will confirm his unworthiness and prove his lack of value.
Be consistent. Everyone knows that even a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then. But in order to be truly successful, you need to strive to be like an obstetrician and be able to deliver regularly.
I once heard a singer in California say that you’re only as good as your worst performance because someone in your audience will judge you on that performance alone. On your worst day, how good are you? Can you deliver when you’re sick, in a bad mood, hungry or tired? To be counted among the achievers of this world, you need to allow yourself no excuses and be able to perform consistently at a quality level no matter what.
Be bold! Life is short. Take a risk! Why not at least try? It has been said that the greatest risk in life is taking no risks. The man who refuses to invest his money because he’s scared of what the stock market is going to do is risking having nothing to sustain him in his retirement. The guy who is afraid of rejection and never takes a chance on love is risking winding up a lonely old man. It is impossible to live without risk. Why not utilize its power instead of being intimidated by it?
Any successful person you have ever known has implemented the Four Be’s. No, it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, effort, and persistence, but the Four Be’s always triumph.
